  • Married (Chereé) with two grown stepsons (who attended Hamilton County public schools before going on to college at MTSU) and two grandsons
  • Professional educator (UTC faculty, College of Engineering and Computer Science) - since UTC recruits more students from the Hamilton County schools than anywhere else, I have a personal stake in making sure our elementary, middle, and high school students get the preparation they need to succeed in college, and in life!

  • Volunteer for Bachman Community Center and Mountain Arts Community Center (helping with computer systems and various other activities) and Signal Crest United Methodist Church's Christmas tree sale
  • Volunteer for Hurricane Katrina relief: trip report ... photos
  • Served on ad hoc committee (2003) that examined Mountain Arts Community Center's non-resident fee structure and recommended changes that were adopted by the Town of Signal Mountain, simplifying fee payment for non-resident patrons.
  • Currently serving on Mountain Vision committee, Town of Signal Mountain
  • Rated chess player and U.S. Chess Federation Senior Tournament Director (I have directed many scholastic chess tournaments and worked with school chess clubs including Thrasher Elementary School.)
  • Snow skier; softball and tennis player; former youth baseball umpire and scorekeeper
